intro

Welcome to the show! We’ll be completing that interview we started last week, but first a couple of terms. The first term i have for you today is Depression Glass
(Screen “Depression Glass”)

READING Depression glass is glassware mass-produced in the USA from about 1920 to 1940, around the time of the Great Depression. It usually has smooth, shallow designs in a variety of colors. Most Depression glass was sold inexpensively at dime stores or given away as promotions, but now, there are many people who collect these pieces, and it’s not too expensive. you can get a nice punch set for under $75.00 online.

(Screen “Colophon”)
Colophon actually comes from a a Greek term meaning “finishing touch,”
READING: It denotes a page at the end of a book listing details about the authorship and publication of the book. On many early books from the 15th and 16th centuries this is the only place such information is available. Title pages eventually replaced most colophons in books.

This question comes from Tina in Michigan)

READING: : Hi Tammy, I collect Dresden Figurines and I recently purchased 3 of the Godey’s Fashions lady figurines and I am having a very had time finding any info on these. I know the stamp on them is Sitzendorf Germany. They are all 3 in mint condition. Can you give me any info on them?  ~Tina

Well, for those of you who aren’t familiar with it, Godey’s Lady’s Fashion Magazine was a very popular publication in from the 1830s to 1898.

Reading: Now these figurines were produced after they ceased publication. They have gorgeous dresden-style lace and are just stunning. Many of them sell online for $200-$500 a piece. Sitzendorf is an old company dating back to 1760 and is still around today.
